FAT QUARTER OF THE MONTH, N. Christensen, Chair

Fat Quarter Drawing

Each month, members have the opportunity to grow their ‘stash’ by participating in a fun exchange of fat quarter fabric. The Fat Quarter of the Month Chairperson organizes the monthly drawing of fat quarters at guild meetings.

What is a Fat Quarter?

A fat quarter of fabric is a one-fourth yard cut that usually measures 18" x 22". To create a fat quarter, cut a half-yard of fabric, 18" along the fabric's lengthwise grain, then cut that piece in half at its midpoint. Or, you can purchase precuts.

Fat Quarter fabric should be 100% cotton quilt-shop quality, approximately 18" x 22”.

The idea is to build our stashes with a variety of different fabrics and not to simply use up yardage you might have hiding in the closet.

How It Works!

Each month there is a theme. You bring your fat quarter to the fat quarter table at the back of the meeting room. Your name is entered into the drawing, if eligible. The drawing will be held at some point during the meeting.

Guidelines for Fat Quarter Drawing

  1. For guild members only, since this activity requires participation in the succeeding months.
  2. Bring a fat quarter that coordinates with that month’s theme to the meeting.
  3. Your name should be attached to the fat quarter you are submitting.
  4. Turn in your fat quarter at the Fat Quarter Table located at the back of the meeting room.
  5. Sign in and your name will be entered once in the drawing.
  6. The drawing will be held at some point during the meeting.
  7. If your name is drawn you win the lot of fat quarters.
  8. Winner of the drawing agree to bring a themed fat quarter for the next 12 months and will not be eligible to win again until after the 12th month.
  9. You can only win the drawing once in a 12 month period.

TIP: If you are participating in the Fat Quarter Drawing, and do not like a particular color theme for the month, put an ‘X’ by your name so that your name will not be put in the drawing. We want everyone to be happy with the fat quarters they win.
